HENRY de Oilly (-[1232]). A writ dated 7 Mar "47 Hen III", after the death of "John de Plessetis alias de Plascetis earl of Warwick", notes that "Humphrey de Bohun gave the manor [of Bradenham, Buckinghamshire] in free marriage to Henry de Oylly with Maud his sister" and names "a son Henry and two daughters" as their children, adding that "Henry the younger died without heir of himself"[1820]. tempore H. Regis patris Imperatricis" who died without heirs, inherited by "Roberto de Oylli…Henrici de Oylli patri istius Henrici"[1826].

m firstly SIBYLLA, daughter of --- (-after [1200]). The mid-15th century English translation of the cartulary of Oseney records that "Henry Doylly ye soone of Henry Doylly…the Kynges constable" confirmed donations to Oseney abbey, for the health of "Sibille my wiffe and of Moolde my dowghter" and the souls of "…my brother Robert Doylly", by charter dated to [1200][1827].

m secondly MATILDA, daughter of --- (-after 1242). A writ dated 25 Aug "26 Hen III", and subsequent inquisitions, after the death of "Thomas Earl of Warwick" excluded the dower of "Philippa sometime the wife of Henry earl of Warwick and Maud sometime the wife of Henry de Oylly" and listed his lands without naming an heir[1828].

WILLIAM [III] de Cauntelo, son of WILLIAM [II] de Cauntelo & his wife --- (-1251). "William de Cantelupe son of Walter de Cantelupe" donated rent received "annually from Samson his free man of Leg" to Montacute priory by undated charter, witnessed by "William de Cantelupe my son and heir…Gilbert de Sai…"[1099]. Matthew Paris names “...Willelmus de Cantelu et Willelmus filius eius, Fulco de Canteleu...” among the "consiliarios iniquissimos” of King John[1100]. Henry III King of England notified the pardon of "Willelmo de Cantilupo junioris" in return for payment of a fine dated [Oct] 1224[1101]. "William de Cantilupo" was granted land "in Caleston which Fulk de Cantilupo his uncle formerly held of the bail of King John" dated 20 Dec 1227[1102]. A charter dated 17 Dec 1243 mandated to "W[illiam] de Cantilupe seisin of all the lands which belonged to Hamo de Valoignes in Ireland…with the marriage of Hamo’s heirs"[1103]. The Annals of Tewkesbury record the death in 1251 of “Willelmus de Cantilupo in Cathedra Sancti Petri”[1104].

m [firstly] ([15 Mar 1217]) as her second husband, MELISENDE de Gournay, widow of AMAURY [VI] de Montfort Comte d’Evreux, daughter of HUGUES [V] Seigneur de Gournay & his wife [Juliane de Dammartin].

[m secondly (before 28 Aug 1236) ---, daughter of THOMAS FitzAnthony & his wife -. Henry III King of England pardoned "William de Cantilupe", who "married one of the daughters and heirs of Thomas Fitz Anthony", his portion of a fine which Thomas had paid to King John for custody of the land and heir of "John Fitz Thomas with the marriage of the heir" by charter dated 28 Aug 1236[1108]. It is not known whether this charter relates to the same William de Cauntelo.]

"Twice married, to Sibil and to Matilda Cantilupe, he left issue a son Henry (d.s.p. 1232) and two daughters Margery and Margaret. Margery, wife of Henry de Newburgh, earl of Warwick (d.1229), inherited the whole of the d'Oilly barony of Hook Norton in 1232 (Sanders, 54)." There are several errors in this entry, possibly brought about by adopting Sanders' rendition of the family. …. First there were only two Henry d'Oillys - the second died in 1232. This is proven by a number of contemporary records, but especially a pedigree extracted from a 1225 curia regis roll. Secondly Henry's second wife was called Matilda and after his death she went on to marry William Cantilupe. She appears to have been a sister or half sister of Maud fitzGeoffrey. Sibil was the mother of Henry II d’Oyly’s daughter and heir, Matilda, who married Maurice de Gaunt. Matilda died without issue in 1219. …
