About Matthew Gilbert
~MY ANCESTOR~ Matthew was the son of MATTHEW GILBERT and JANE (BAKER) GILBERT, first Deputy Governor of the Colony of Connecticut & deacon of the First Church. On 2 May 1684, he married SARAH PECK, daughter of DEACON JOSEPH PECK and Sarah (Parker) Peck, and grand-daughter of DEACON WILLIAM PECK & ELIZABETH PECK, the latter being founders of New Haven. Matthew Jr. was a Justice of the Peace in New Haven. After his death in 1711, his widow married Joseph Moss.
