Juhani Hiltunen Amerikkalaisnäyttelijä Matt Damonin suomalaisista sukujuurista on saatu uutta tietoa. Oscar-voittajan juuret löytyvät Kemin Karihaarasta, josta Damonin isoisoisä Nils Johan Olafsson-Pajari (1889-1980) lähti Yhdysvaltoihin vuonna 1907 kahden veljensä kanssa.

- Nils Johan ja kaksi hänen veljeään lähtivät Kemistä siirtolaisiksi Amerikkaan tarkalleen 2. toukokuuta 1907. He ylittivät Atlantin höyrylaivalla, joka rantautui St. Louisin piirikunnan pääkaupunki Duluthin satamaan Minnesotassa, kertoo asiaa tutkinut kemiläissyntyinen Heikki Lyttinen, joka on Matt Damonin äidin Nancy Carlsson-Paigen pikkuserkku.

Damonin sukujuurista yksi jykevä todiste löytyy Kemin Peurasaaren hautausmaalta. Siellä on Olli Pajarin (10.5.1848.–5.11.1905) ja hänen vaimonsa Greta Pajarin (8.6.1854.–10.11.1911) hauta. He ovat Nils Johan Olafsson-Pajarin vanhemmat, eli Matt Damonin isoisoisovanhemmat.

Matt Damonin koko nimi on Matthew Paige Damon. Nimi Paige on vääntynyt aikojen kuluessa nykyiseen muotoonsa Pajarista. Nimellä on ollut myös muita muotoja. Esimerkiksi Peurasaaren hautausmaalla lepäävän Olli Pajarin isä on merkitty kirkonkirjoihin sukunimellä Bajar, suluissa Bajaar.

Tarina alkaa toukokuun 2. päivästä 1907, jolloin Nils Johan lähti matkaan kohti Yhdysvaltoja veljiensä Karl Axelin ja Erik Ulrikin kanssa. Syynä oli halu lähteä paremman elämän perään, mutta todennäköisesti myös uhka joutumisesta Venäjän tsaarin armeijaan.

- Karl Axelin ja Erik Ulrikin muutto siirtolaisiksi oli tiedossa jo aiemmin, mutta Nils Johanin lähdöstä samaan aikaan kuulin vasta maaliskuussa iäkkään tätini hautajaisissa, Lyttinen kertoo. Nils Johan on tärkein linkki Matt Damonin suomalaisiin sukujuuriin.

Sattumalta tupakkapaikalla, niin sanotusti puun takaa tullut tieto sai Lyttisen innostumaan sukunsa tutkimisesta. Purematta hän ei asiaa kuitenkaan niellyt.

- Ensin ajattelin, ettei tämä voi olla totta ja onkohan tämä varmasti nyt niin kuin minulle on kerrottu. Vähintään siis pientä epäuskoa oli ilmassa. Mutta kun palasin kotiini ja ryhdyin tutkimaan asiaa, niin tottahan se oli.

- Ja sen jälkeen tämä sukututkimus on lähtenyt "vähän" käsistä, Lyttinen naurahtaa. Hän on perustanut nettiin oma sukupuunsa, My Heritagen ja tietoa on löytynyt peräti 17 sukupolvea taaksepäin, aina 1400 -luvulle saakka.

- Yllättävää on ollut esimerkiksi se, että suvussani on ollut ainakin kuusi pappia, muusikkona ja bussikuskina itsensä elättänyt Lyttinen mainitsee.

Yhdysvaltoihin saavuttuaan Nils Johan työskenteli ensin mainarina ja sittemmin parturina. Hän meni naimisiin toisen suomalaissiirtolaisen, Impi Niemisen, kanssa ja he ottivat Paigen sukunimekseen. Niemisen syntymävuodesta ei ole varmuutta, mutta Lyttisen mukaan se on todennäköisesti 1894.

Pariskunta sai kaksi poikaa. Reino Paige syntyi 1915 ja John Walter Paige 1916.

- Vuonna 1935 Nils Johan ja Impi erosivat. Impin uusi mies Emil Hannula otti John Walterin ottopojakseen. Reinosta ei valitettavasti ole tietoja, Lyttinen selvittää.

Sittemmin John Walter sai tyttären, Nancy Carlsson-Paigen, joka on siis Matt Damonin äiti.

- Nancy on minun pikkuserkkuni ja työskennellyt varhaiskasvatustieteiden professorina.

Nils Johanin pikkusisko Fanni Katarina Lyttinen (os. Pajari) (1881-1943) on puolestaan Heikki Lyttisen isoäiti ja oli naimisissa Juho Janne Lyttisen (1894-1973) kanssa. He saivat peräti 11 lasta, joista Pentti Aulis on vuonna 1952 syntyneen Heikki Lyttisen isä.

Matt Damonia tai tämän äitiä Lyttinen ei ole koskaan tavannut.

- Olisihan se kiva tavata joskus, Lyttinen hymähtää ja tunnustaa, että se on helpommin sanottu kuin tehty.

Sinällään mies kuitenkin suhtautuu kuuluisaan sukulaisen rauhallisesti.

- Kivaltahan se toki tuntuu, mutta ei siinä ole sen kummempaa. Ja Nancyllä on ainakin 30 pikkuserkkua, joten aika mahdotontakin on olla yhteyksissä kaikkiin.

Asian selvittelyn yhteydessä Lyttinen on kuitenkin ollut yhteyksissä muihin Damonin kaukaisiin sukulaisiin, jotka olivat esillä viime talvena Iltalehdessä olleessa jutussa.

- Olen lähettänyt esimerkiksi saamani asiakirjat sähköpostilla jutussa haastatellulle Saara La Barberalle Australiaan.

Saara La Barbera (os. Vahtola ) on Olli Pajarin veljen jälkeläisiä.

Matt Damon on tietoinen suomalaisista sukujuuristaan ja puhunut asiasta avoimesti. Hän kutsui itseään vartti-finskiksi Ilta-Sanomien erikoistoimittaja Rita Tainolan haastattelussa jo vuonna 2011.
