Biography
Mark Read was baptised in Gillingham, Dorset on 15 November 1814. He was the son of George Read & Elizabeth.[1]
He was the youngest son and arrived in the Swan River Colony on the “Rockingham” with his parents and Thomas Peel in 1830. He established a property named "Elmsley" on Mounts Bay Rd. He had a lightering business with vessels travelling between Perth and Fremantle and islands off the coast. They had six children some of which became prominent citizens in the Guildford area. He died at home age 73.
