12 September 1548: Gift granted by Queen Mary with the consent of her tutor in favour of Dame Marion Seytoun, Countess of Eglinton, her heirs and assignees of the ward and nonentry of the lands and lordship of Ardrossan and Robertoun, the lands of Langschaw, Dregarne, the two Galloberris, Crevoch, Snodgerss, the annualrent furth of the lands of Stane and Bourtreehill, the lands of Auldtoun, Langmuir, Tidwod, Lambrochtoun, Twahillis, the annualrent furth of the lands of Newlandis, the lands and lordship of Gefane, with advocation, donation and right of patronage of the parish church of Beith, the annualrent furth of the lands of Drumdow, the lands of Nethir Auchindrane, with fishings on the Water of Done (Doon), Lochransay and Sannok, the isle called Little Cumray (Cumbrae), the lands and lordship of Eglishame, the lands of Lochlebosyd, Estwod, Newlandis, Langside, Taggartlandis of Mureley, Caulduel, Bonnytoun and Piltoun of all years and times bygone, that the same had been in the Queen's hands of her predecessors, as superiors thereof, by reason of ward or nonentry, by reduction of whatsoever retours, infeftments, or any other way since the decease of unquhile Hugh, last Earl of Eglinton, Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, his goodsire or any other their predecessors, until the lawful heir or heirs be 16 years of age, and then the said gift to expire in so far as concerns the said lands and lordship of Ardrossan and the particular lands comprehended therein, with the relief thereof when it should happen. 13 March 1556: Extract registered contract between Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, Lord Montgomery etc, with advice, consent and authority of Robert, Lord Sempill, Dame Marion Seytoun, Countess of Eglinton, Richard Maitland of Lethington, his curators on the one part and Neill Montgomery, son and heir to unquhile Sir Neill Montgomery of Langschaw, who had the gift of the ward of the lands of Eglintoun, Tarboltoun and Galstoun and of the office of bailliary of Cunningham etc on the other part, whereby the said Neill Montgomery, as heir foresaid, assigns to Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, the foresaid ward and the said Earl binds himself to pay to Neill the sum of 560 merks at the terms therein mentioned, and also yearly 4 score merks during the minority and lesser age of the said noble lord, until he should be 21 years complete, and the sum of 40lib yearly in all times coming thereafter during their lifetimes, and Neill should instantly give and deliver a sufficient discharge of the sum of 560 merks to Dame Marion Seytoun, Countess of Eglinton, which she was bound to pay to him by a contract made between them, dated 14th February 1550, and registered in the Books of Council, and consented that the part of the said contract should be deleted furth of the said Books; the cautioners thereto for the said Earl were Robert Ker of Kerisland, John Fraser of Knox, John Montgomery of Hesilheid, and Alexander Hammill of Ruchwod, and for the said Neill Montgomery Hugh Montgomery of Auchinheid, John Mure of Caulduell, John Montgomery of Hessilheid, John Kennedy of Skeldoun, and David Blair of Adamtoun. 29 July 1558: Service before Robert Craufurd of Clolynane and Robert Campbell of Cragdow, sheriff deputes of Ayr of Robert Clerk, son of deceased Leonard Clerk, burgess of Ayr as heir of his father in the said lands of Annanhill which were then valued at 4lib Scots and in time of peace at 13s 4d Scots; were held of Hugh, Earl of Eglinton for the service of ward and relief; and were then in the hands of Lady Marion Seytoun, Countess of Eglinton, conjunct fiar, of the barony of Roberton by reason of nonentry since the death of the said Leonard Clerk for the space of two terms. Sealed with the seals of the inquest and that of Hugh Campbell of Loudoun, knight, sheriff of Ayr. Made at the burgh of Ayr, in the town hall thereof.
