Page 17: By this time Iba presumably gives birth to a third daughter Maria Elisabeth van de Caab who later goes by the name Maria Elisabeth Jooste(n). Seven family members are enumerated (1682) in the census (Opgaaf): three extra members presumably being Iba’s daughters. Amsoeboe is now recorded as Paay Timorees.25 The latter name is later contracted to ‐ or erroneously [?] recorded as ‐ Moor26. His wife now appears as Ansela van Timor. The Netherlandized terms pa(a)ij and ma(a)ij are Portuguese for ‘father’ (pai) and ‘mother’ (mãe) commonly used as a term of respect throughout the colonial East Indies – also in the Dutch settlements – to address or refer to elderly Asian and African ‘blacks’. 28 Both words have been carried over into modern Afrikaans. Amsoeboe is not to be confused with the contemporary banished Muslim convict (bandiet) Miera / Mira / Mirra Moor van Ceylon.

Biography
Notice ===:: In the past there might have been a conflation / confusion two Maria Elisabet Joost [van de Caep] profiles. One set of information suggests that she was an orphan girl from the Netherlands (primary sources are still needed to validate this suggestion), another suggests that she was from the Cape. Evidence for the last is much more clear. The baptism (for the Maria from the Cape) states van de Caep (= Cape Born) and slave at the time of baptism. This rules out the other Maria Elisabeth [Jooste?] orphan girl from the Netherlands. As no father or mother names are mentioned in the baptism (she must already been a young girl and not an infant as she is called a "person" and baptized with the name Maria Elisab[eth] van de Caep.
To avoid confusion with all the dozens of other Maria van de Caep profiles, and seeing that she
was known mostly by the name of Jooste, I suggest that we protect this profile with the last name of Jooste. I have changed the last name of birth of the [putative] father profile from Joosten-147 to the more patronymic version of Theunisz-16 as that was much more probable in that time (also used by that other authoratitivesource Delia Robertson (The First Fifty Years Project. http://e-family.co.za/ffy Page: Maria Elisabeth Jooste). Van der Walt-440|Van der Walt-440 04:12, 2 September 2017 (EDT)
