From the "Fayetteville Observer" dated 24 March 1836, microfilm on loan from NC State Library.

"Died. Another Revolutionary Patriot gone to sleep with his compeers beneath the silent clods of the valley. Departed this life on Thursday, the 13th inst., Mr. KENITH MURCHISON, of this County, in the 88th year of his age, leaving an aged consort and a large circle of relatives to mourn their irreparable loss. The subject of this obituary notice was a native of Scotland, from whence he came to No. Carolina about the year 1773, where he was soon found by the side of his country, defending her violated rights, liberties and repose, in which he maintained an American spirit worthy to be embalmed by his country's gratitude. As a Christian he was no less firm, having attached himself several years since to the Presbyterian Church, of which he was a pious and devout member, and evincing by his moral deportment and humble walk, that he was one of Christ's, and in death he shewed the clearest evidence, that beyond the grave peaceful rest awaits the righteous; of him it may truly be said, having received the spirit of the living God, it grew brighter and brighter until it shone forth in him the perfect man as a friend and citizen, he was beloved and esteemed; as a husband, tender and affectionate; as a father, kind and compassionate. If he had vices, they were enveloped in his virtues, and hidden from those who knew him.During his last sickness, he maintained unshaken, that firmness and resignation which alone characterises the Christian; remaining in his proper mind until a few moments before his happy spirit fled into the bosom of his God."
