Katherine Kennedy here treated is not the same person as Dame Katherine Kennedy
According to Sir James Balfour Paul, Katherine Kennedy is the daughter of James Kennedy of Blairquhan and his wife Agnes Murray. She is said by him to have married first, William Lord Herries, and second, following the death of her first husband on 26 September 1543, John Wallace, tutor of Craigie. It is not possible to identify the date and place of her birth and death. The Scots Peerage, IV, page 408
Death
A date and place of death has not been identified for Katherine Kennedy. She was alive on 21 August 1545, the date upon which she and her second husband had a charter confirming their possession of the lands of Dundonald, RMS, 1513-46: 3151 but must have died before 24 October 1573, by which date her husband had married for a second time. 28 April 1543: Charter under the Great Seal of Scotland which confirms possession of the seven and one half merk land of Reidcastell in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright to William, Lord Herries, and his wife Katherine Kennedy. Reidcastell was to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent, and was to descend to their lawful male heirs, whom failing to Lord Herries heirs. Following the death of Katherine, Reidcastell was to return to the lordship and Barony of Terregles: "insuper voluit quod poste decessum dicte Katherine dicti terre reverterentur dominio de baronie de Terreglis". 21 August 1545: Charter under the Great Seal of Scotland which confirms possession of the lands of Dundonald, in the Kyle-Stewart division of the sheriffdom of Ayr, to John Wallace of Dundonald and Katherine Kennedy, widow of William, Lord Herries. The lands of Dundonald were to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent and by their lawful heirs, whom failing by the heirs and assignees of John Wallace of Dundonald in feu ferme.
