John served as Constable in Orange Co., NC/SC, being appointed to that position in March, 1753.
In October, 1754 John was granted a license to keep an "ordinary" (an inn) in his home.
On August 2, 1768 John sold property to his son Isaac's father-in-law Peter Anderson.
On October 14, 1774 John bought property on a branch of King's Creek in Tryon Co., NC. This purchase encompassed land which was later in York District, SC.
