About John Stourton, Lord de Stourton
John De Stourton, 1st son and heir. From 1355 to 1378 he was in commissions for Somerset. From 1377 to 1379 he was escheator for Somerset and Dorset. He is styled John Stourton, formerly Lord de Stourton in the will of his son John.
In 1374 he founded a chantry for himself, his wife, and his parents William de Stourton and Joan his wife (both deceased), his brethren and sisters, and Lettice and Alice his wives. John was married to Alice by 10 July 1380 when an application was made to grant John de Stourton, Alice his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, one-third of messuages and land in Preston Plucknett. The surnames of both his wives are unknown. The date and place of John's death are unknown. On 9 February 1407, an order was made to make inquisition touching the lands and heir of Alice late the wife of John Stourton. Inquisitions were ordered for Somerset and Dorset, however, these have not been found.
Caution
An erroneous (or fictitious) College of Arms pedigree ratified and confirmed in 1722 records the wives of John de Stourton as (1) Catharine, daughter of Lord Beaumont and (2) Jane, daughter of Ralph Lord Basset. This pedigree was published by Hoare in 1822 in his History of Modern Wiltshire Vol 1 and used by Collins in his Peerage of England publications as early as 1768. These errors were repeated by Collins and others in later publications and do not match contemporary documents.

- Burial March 18, 1374 at the Abbey of Stavordale. A canon from Stavordale Priory was to say mass for the souls of John and his wife Alice, and his parents Sir William de Stourton and Johanne. He is differentiated from his nephew John, son of brother Roger. Both John and his son John had wives names Alice. Masses were also to be said for this brothers and sisters. link

- Jim Weber Notes: At this point the history both of the manor and of the family of Stourton becomes obscure. The pedigree gives Ralph two sons, Eudes (who is said to have d. young) and William, whose son John, according to the "History of the Noble House of Stourton", was sheriff in 1377; and this may be correct.
