"John Pudney1 (Putney) was a husbandman; married Judith Cook Nov. 18, 1662; she was his wife in 1701; he died in the spring of 1712; children:

"John Putney born in England 1637, came to Mass., America, about 1657. He was made a freeman of Boston, Mass. in 1659. [SIC: There is no indication of freemanship for John Pudney in Paige's List of Freemen.] He bought land at Salem, Essex Co., Mass. and lived and died there. His will, dated Mar.17, 1712, is recorded in the probate records of Essex Co., Mass."

"John Pudney Last Will provd & allowed. In the name of God Amen this seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord 1711/12, I John Pudney Sr. of Salem in the County of Essex in New England, Yeoman, being weak and sick of body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be given to God calling to mind the mortality of our body and knowing it is appointed for man once to dye do make and ordaine this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto God that gave it and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as touching my worldly ___ where with I hath pledged God to bless me in this life that is to say first I will that all my lawfull debts that I owe to any at the time after my decease by my executor hereafter named. I give to my son Joneth Pudney whom I likewise make constitute and appoint my only sole Executor of this my last will and testament my home ___ wherein I now dwell containing about forty acres of land more or less together with my house barn & orchard & he paying twenty pounds a piece in money to his two ___ young__ hereafter named. I give also to my said son Jonath Pudney __ __ of land ... therefore I bought of Mr. James __ to wit .... Putnam, John Tarbell & Samuel... land I bouth of James ___ is bounding upon his own land ... I give of remainding thirty six acres of land bought of James ___ to my two sons Sam Pudney and Joseph Pudney specially to be divided between. I give to my daughter Judath Mac... my green copper kettle. I give to my daughter Joanah Shaw five shillings in money to be paid by my executor aforesaid within six months after my decease. I give to my two younger daughters Abigail Pudney and Eliza Pudney twenty pounds a piece in money to be paid within three months after my decease by my executor above named. I give all my household ___ of ... unto my two younger daughtesr Abigail & Elizbth above named to be equally divided between them and I do hereby nullify ... my other will or wills or testaments by me heretofore made ratifying & confirming this and no other to be my last will & testament. In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written, the Mark, John Pudney. ... April 14, 1712, before me Honorable John Appleton ...
