Death certificate shows born at Graham, Texas on 26 October 1856. That should be born near the Belknap Community in Young County, Texas due to the fact Graham, Texas was not founded until 1872.

John Henry "Bud" Jowell was the oldest son of John and Martha Jowell. He was a Texas Ranger in Deaf Smith County. Bud Jowell was appointed Sheriff of Deaf Smith County filling out the term of Jim Cook.

Bud and his brother, Charles "Charley" Jowell worked on the Goodnight ranch together for many years. They both lived in the canyon.
