JOHN HAMILTON
Servant to John Burn in Brumbletown
Without justification it has been claimed that John Hamilton, here treated, was that son of John Hamilton of Allanshaw whose baptism was registered at Blantyre on 11 January 1691. WikiTree It should be noted, however, that the ancestry of this man has not been satisfactorily identified. For example, the earliest record so far identified for him is the record of his marriage to Janet Young in 1717. This confirms that his wife was the daughter of William Young in Carscarden, and that he was the servant of John Burn in Brumbletown, but there is nothing in his marriage record, or in the baptismal records of his four known children, which identifies the name of his father, or his place of birth, or even a former place of residence.
Marriage
John Hamilton, here treated, married Janet Young. The marriage was booked in 1717, at Hamilton in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The marriage booking reads as follows: "John Hamilton sertt to John Burn in Brumbletown & Jonet Young daughter to Wm Young in Carscadan both in this parish married - " [National Records of Scotland, Hamilton Marriages, reference OPR.647/2]
