About John Browning, III
This family is believed to have originated in what is known as the low countries of Europe and various parts of Germany and the Netherlands. Members of the family apparently went to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. The early spelling of the name was Brunwyn. Bruning and Brune. 'Wyn', a suffix of endearment, was added later and still later it was changed to Browning, an early Anglo-Saxon baptismal name. The earliest reference to the family in England was of two brothers, Henry and John of County Suffolk in the year 1273. A John Browning of Cambridgeshire and County Norfolk appearing at a later date was probably a son of one of these. Notes for JOHN BROWNING: The Browning Family
