Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bird-31

John may have been one of the early pioneer white settlers already residing in Huntington, western Long Island, upon its 1653 founding by three men from neighboring Oyster Bay, after their purchase of the site from the natives. Huntington is in the far western end of the English-ruled Suffolk County, on the border with Dutch-ruled eastern Nassau County. In the early years, this general border area was claimed by the Dutch of New Netherland, but became populated largely by English settlers, including Quakers who fled the Dutch persecution of New Amsterdam. In 1660, the town voted to become part of the English Connecticut colony rather than remain under the Dutch authority of New Amsterdam. From that time forward, this county divding line between Nassau and Suffolk became more formally the boundary separating Dutch and English ruled portions of Long Island.
