About Johann Jacob Hoover, Sr.
Jacob Huber came to America around 1710 with his father's family. He was probably married to his first wife at this time. The Hubers were Mennonites, a religious group which was persecuted in their native land. They came to America seeking religous freedom, offered by William Penn, who was attempting to settle Pennsylvania.
On 21 September 1745 Jacob's father and mother, Hans and Margaret Huber, conveyed to Jacob and Anna Huber the 200 acre homestead.
Sometime between 1745 and 1754 Jacob Huber moved with his second wife and five children to Martic, now Providence Township. He divided the 200 acre homestead between his two sons by his first wife, John and Martin, on 10 January 1754. After moving Jacob Huber developed a tract of several hundred acres in Martic Township, where he eventually built a grist mill which he and his grandson ran. It was known as Strohm's mill. (The Huber=Hoover Family History, Harry M Hoover, 1928, printed by Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, PA, found in Xerox University Microfilms, Ann Arbor, Michigan)
On 29 July 1759 Jacob Huber recorded his will. He mentioned one farm of 250 acres and another of 150 acres in Conestogoe Township. He mentioned his wife, Anna, and his children - his sons, Jacob, Matthias, Christian, John, and Martin, and daughters, Anna, Barbara, Maria, Margaret, Magdalena, and Catherine. His will was proven 12 September 1792. (Lancaster Co, PA, Will Book F, p 383-5.)

Estimated date of death for Jacob Huber 'of Martick'
Often we see the date of Jacob Huber's death reported as "July 9, 1759." This is an error that likely started with Harry M. Hoover's 1928 Huber-Hoover genealogy. He writes Jacob Huber was "born in Switzerland, or the Palatinate prior to 1700, and died in Martic, now Providence Twp., Lancaster County, July 9 1759." A few pages prior to this, Jacob's entire will is transcribed and the date of Jacob's signing is clearly and correctly copied as "29th of July, 1759" and further the date of the proving of the will follows (correctly) as 12 Septemeber 1792. The time gap between the signing of his will and the proving of it is 33 years.
Sometimes it's prudent to assume the testator died very soon prior to Probate, but in Jacob 'of Martick' Hover's case, we know he was deceased by 1772, twenty years prior to probate, because of Deed made 21 November 1772 between Jacob of Martick's two youngest sons, "Jacob Hoover son of Jacob Hoover deceased of the Township of Martick… yeoman, and Barbara his wife of the one part and Matthias Hoover, another son of the said Jacob Hoover deceased" of the same town, now each no longer minors, and Jacob Jr conferring his portion of the land on Pequea Creek adjoining the land of Jacob Good, [now] Jacob Goughanour, containing 210 acres, and the other adjoining Samuel Byers, Henry Hubers containing 48 acres, mentioned in the will "Writing Date 29 July 1759, wherein is written "I Give and Bequeath to and Between my two Sons Jacob & Mathias the Plantation whereon I now live containing 250 acres…"
The deed says the will was "Duly proved and remaining in the Registers Office at Lancaster as of Record may Appear"
Well, it apparently was not duly recorded, as there is evidence to the contrary. Whatever mixup caused the court to require a 67 year old, "Sole Surviving Witness" Martin Beam to have to come in and verify the signature from 33 years prior on Jacob Huber's last Will and Testament we may never ascertain. But letters of administration had already been granted by 1764, so it's likely this was a mistake of the Recorder's office.
The Misc. book at Lancaster Court House records an administrative account on June 4th, 1765, presented by Jacob's "loving friend" Henry Huber and eldest sons, John and Martin, both chosen by the youngest sons, minors over 14 years, Jacob and Mathias as guardians. The Court normally requires the account to be presented within a year from the date of appointment, so we are safe to assume that Jacob of Martick Huber died sometime after June 4th 1764, but certainly before 5 June 1765.

Jacob Huber, son of Hans Huber, came to Pennsylvania with his father's family and most likely was married after he came. He took charge of the homestead in 1745 and between this date and 1754 he moved with his second wife and five children to Martie, now Providence Township. His will written in 1754 shows that his children to the second wife were then under age. Those to the first wife were all married at that time. Jacob Huber divided the homestead in Earl Township between his two sons by his first wife, John and Martin, on Jan. 10, 1754. He moved to Martie Township, where he took up a tract of several hundred crew of vacant land, which he improved, and later built a grist mill which his son and grandson operated. In later years it was known as Strohm's mill. Source: The Huber=Hoover Family History 1928
