Jean Couchon dit LaMothe was born in the year 1591 in Dieppe, Rouen, Normandie, France. He married his second wife Jeanne Abraham on April 4, 1633 in Saint-Jacques, Seine Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France. He died in Chateau-Richer, La Cote de Beaupre, Quebec, Canada on July 11, 1673. Also known as Jean Cochon.

Jean immigrated from Normandy, France to Quebec (Nouvelle-France) with daughter Marguerite, age 16, from his first marriage, wife Jeanne Abraham, age 31, son Pierre, age 5, son Jean, age ten and son Jacques.
