(1st of ROTHIEMURCHUS; 'of the Forays') Born: abt. 1483 Died: 1553 Freuchie, Cromdale, Moray, Scotland AFN TK19-GR Name Sheumas Nan Creach (James Of The Forays) Died 26 Aug 1553 Freuchie, Cromdale, Moray, Scotland Buried Duthil, Inverness-shire, Scotland IDENTITY: Called Sheumas nan Creach (James of the Forays). He was retoured heir to his father in Freuchie, with its castle and fortalice and other lands, in 1536 and 1539. On 27 July 1545 he purchased the lands of Estir Urquhil (Easter Urquhart) and Cantradoun, within the barony of Clawach (Clava), in the sheriffdom of Nairn. On 23 April 1545, at Elgin, he excambed the lands of Easier Urquhart and others with Alexander Dolas of Cantray for the lands of Rothieimurchus. On 4 May 1548 Queen Mary granted him various lands in Lochalsh aud Lochcarron. KINSHIP: 1st son. CHURCH: Made bailie of the Abbey of Kinloss before 20 Jun 1544.
