About James Henry
James was a Creek Indian from the Muskogee Nation, Oklahoma
The Muscogee (Creek) were not a single tribe or people but a loose confederation (or association) of tribes and chiefdoms. Because most spoke a variation of the Muscogee language, the Creeks were sometimes called Muscogees.
There were two distinct groups. The Upper Muscogee (Creek) lived in towns and villages in the northern half of Alabama. The Lower Muscogee (Creek)* lived in towns and villages in western Georgia, southern Alabama, and northern Florida.

Biography:
James was born c. 1872 according to his Dawes Card #9343 issued May 2, 1901, which indicates he is 29.
His father is listed as Bat Henry, and his mother Millie Henry. Both were dead at Okfuskee Town, Canadian District, IT. James was enrolled at Eufaula, the county seat of McIntosh County, and named after a Muscogee tribal town in Alabama. His card notes that he lived with his son William Givens on January 1, 1912.
Hastain’s Township Plats of the Creek Nation was published by E. Hastain in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1910. This publication shows the location of allotments to members of the Muscogee Nation.
James was transferred to the Canton Asylum on August 31, 1923, from the Oklahoma Central State Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma. He appears to have been a patient in the Canton Asylum between then and sometime before June 30, 1927.

Research Notes:
-James is NOT indicated in the 1927 Canton Asylum male census indicating that he had died (or been discharged) before June 30, 1927.
-No annual censuses were taken for the Five Civilized Tribes, who relied more on the various rolls.
