About Jacob Wisler
"The Wissler Family Record" was published in 1904 at Elora, Ontario, Canada by Henry Wissler.
He wrote that according to his family tradition, "about the year 1720, Jacob Wissler, a German Mennonite and his wife Magdalena, immediately after their marriage, went out from Switzerland, traveled down the Rhine to the port of Rotterdam and there took ship for Philadelphia. Shortly after sailing, their vessel was overtaken by a man-of-war. Jacob Wissler, with the other able-bodied men on board, was impressed into the navy, and the rest of those on board were sent on to Philadelphia.
"When Magdalena reached Philadelphia she took service with a farmer in the neighboring village of Germantown to await the coming of her husband. As soon as the term of service in the navy had expired, Jacob set out in search of his wife, and came to Philadelphia. He had a presentiment that he would meet his wife and set out at once from the landing along the road for Germantown. Wonderful to relate he met her on the road carrying two pails of milk to Philadelphia for her employer."
