By all indications, their location this far west so early, The Wrights were certainly in the Tidewater of Virginia way back into the 1600s.

There is a Will on record in Amherst County, Virginia, in 1807, showing that Isaac Wright had several children, including a John Wright. Of course that is a common name. Some critics might say that we can never be sure that Isaac's son John Wright is the same one who migrated to Russell and Wise Counties. Other evidence supports this, however, because our Wise County John Wright was noted to be born in Frederick, VA, and there are Virginia rent rolls showing Isaac Wright to be in that location as well. When you get back 7-8 generations like this, it may be impossible to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt.

If you note a few generations above our John Wright and father Isaac Wright, we are supposed to be descendent of Anne Washington (George's great aunt). Significantly, down our line of the family tree, there were several men named "George Washington Wright," so our relatives in the early 1800s were showing us that link. - Tony Wright 2015

Origins

Suggested as son of Francis Wright, of King William County and Anne (Massey) Stribling. However, that seems a mixup.
