--------------------------------------------
Hywel ap Rhys was a 9th-century king of part or all of Glywysing (ruled c. 840–886) in southern Wales. His sons Arthfael and Owain were probably responsible for the reünification of the realm of Morgannwg. A third son may have fallen assisting Rhodri the Great resist a Mercian invasion of Anglesey around 843.[2]
