About Hotumatapū
Position and difference of Hotuāwhio's place in the tree, how the maunga Kōrero (the mountains speak) of events may vary depending on perspectives and locations (Keenan, 2012).:
Mōtai → Hotumatapū → Hotuope → Hoturoa (Whakapapa 1)
Waikato out to the West and all its regions (Jones, 1961b; Waitangi Tribunal, 2020).
Ngāti Māhanga (Collins et al., 2012).
Ngāti Raukawa (Jones, 1961b; Royal, 1991, 2017).
Jones's Ngāti Hāua genealogical tables, [ Ngāti Hāua iwi] (Jones, 1975).
Pōtatau Te Wherowhero's whakapapa (Jones, 2010).
Mahuta Te Wherowhero's memorial inscription (Bouskill, 1989).
Pei Te Hurinui Jones's parents whakapapa book (Jones, 1961b)
Roore Erueti "...Hotuāwhio is a younger brother from Hotumatapū." (Jones, 1961b).
Lionel Adams, of Tainui (Adams, 1974).
Te Rohe Pōtae (Waitangi Tribunal, 2020).
Ngāti Tamatera (Hung, n.d.)
Ngāti Koroki, Ngāti Kahukura, and Ngāti Hauā (Papa, n.d.).
Ngāti Maniapoto's Tūhuatahi Tui Adams and Paul Meredith (Adams & Meredith, 2017). But please see note below.
Meiha Keepa Rangihiwinui of Muaūpoko iwi (Jubilee: Te Tiupiri, 1898).
Mōtai → Hotuāwhio → Hotumatapū → Hotuope → Hoturoa (Whakapapa 2)
Puhiwāhine's whakapapa by Jones, refuted by Moke, which was accepted as incorrect by Jones (Jones, 1961a).
Hari Te Whānonga (Jones, 1961b).
Te Matau, a secretary who authored King Te Rata's whakapapa book (Jones, 1961b).
Mōtai → Hotumatapū → Hotuāwhio → Hotuope → Hoturoa (Whakapapa 3)

Ngāti Ruapuha & Ngāti Uekaha (Ruapuha Uekaha Hapū Trust, n.d.).
Jone's Tainui genealogy book (Biggs & Jones, 2004). This book was written posthumously, and seems to contradict Jones's position for his meeting in the 1950s, 1961 letter the editor, and also for Ngāti Hāua iwi in 1975 (Jones, 1961b; Jones, 1975).
Hoturoa → Hotuope → Hotuāwhio → Hotumatapū → Mōtai
Raukawa (Raukawa et al., 2012).
Hoturoa → Hotuope → Hotumatapū → Mōtai
Ngāti Toa Rangatira (Ngāti Toa Rangatira et al., 2012).
Notes
Ngāti Maniapoto academics Tūhuatahi Tui Adams and Paul Meredith have Whakapapa 1 in the Te Ara New Zealand Encyclopedia online, but there seems to be Maniapoto Māori Trust Board documents as Whakapapa 3? (Adams & Meredith, 2017; Maniapoto Māori Trust Board, 2009).
Paahi Moke refutes both Kelly's and Robertson's whakapapa (Jones, 1961b).
Jones, 1961b "I will now say that Paahi Moke is correct in rejecting my genealogy in Te Ao Hou No. 34. [ Hotuāwhio → Hotumatapū → Hotuope] In my opinion now, only Ngāti Maniapoto branched out from most of the tribes of Tainui, and it seems that the man who compiled the whakapapa that Te Matau wrote in King Te Rata's whakapapa book was from Ngāti Maniapoto." [I hope I understood the Māori language correctly.].
