King Hezekiah's royal seal unearthed!
'Then the runners went throughout all Israel and Judah with the letters from the king (Hezekiah) and his leaders, and spoke according to the command of the king: "Children of Israel, return to the LORD God of Abraham, Issac, and Israel; then He will return to the remnant of you who have escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria."'
King Hezekiah, was a faithful adherent of the LORD, one who held fast the teachings of the LORD and did not depart from following HIM. (2Kg.18:1-6). He was twenty five years old when HEZEKIAH became king, and he reigned twenty- nine years in Jerusalem, his mother’s name was ABI. (2Chr 31:20),
The virtuous and God-fearing king Hezekiah ...
whose faithful, but not always heeded, adviser was the prophet Isaiah ... [Judah] seemed about to share the same fate of Samaria [in the north] in consequence of the king's vacillating foreign policy. To prepare his capital for an emergency [of invasion by Assyria], he had a conduit cut through the rock, to bring an additional supply of water into the city [Jerusalem], into the pool of Siloam (II Kings 20;20). The conduit and the inscription, written in ancient Hebrew and recording this remarkable feat of engineering, were re-discovered in 1880. The stone bearing the inscription was transferred to the Archaeological Museum at Istanbul.
The crisis came in 701 BCE [when} Sennacherib, king of Assyria, invaded Judah and, after a prolonged siege, captured the strongly fortified town of Lachish, southwest of Jerusalem .... some 2000 human bodies .... The siege of Jerusalem that now followed was, however, suddenly abandoned, and the people saw in this unexpected relief the result of direct Divine intervention. Hezekiah's successors, [Kings] Manasseh and Amon, reverted to the policy of loyal submission to Assyrian suzerainty."
