About Henry Phelps, of London & Salem
Henry Phelps, of London, England, was a passenger in the ship "Hercules," which arrived in this country in 1634. He settled in Salem, Massachusetts, and his wife's name was [Anna Fresler.]
A Henry Phelps was made freeman of the Colony 13 Mar 1639 [Phelps & Servin, 1572; Shurtleff, Records of the Governor, 1:375]; this apparently was the younger Henry who would have come of age at about this time. Nothing further is known of an elder Henry and it may be assumed that he had died before 1639, although the date and place of his death and burial are unknown.
Notes
Comments from Postem 2013
"Henry Phelps from the Good Ship Hercules is my ancestor and some of this information is incorrect. He came with two brothers, Nicholas and Edward. His second wife, daughter to Thomas and Eleanor Treslor, had a will dated February 15, 1654. Henry died in 1661 in Salem. He had one child with his first wife-Christopher, born 1638, who married Elizabeth Sharp on May 9, 1658. He had eight children with his second wife, including John who moved from Salem to Reading after 1683 and married the widow Abigail Upton, sister of Obadiah Antrum."
