Biography

Henrietta MacSween', was the great-great-grandmother of 45th United States President Donald J. Trump.

Henrietta was born about 1811 on the Isle of Lewis and Harris in Scotland. Her parents were Angus MacSween and Margaret Campbell. It is not certain exactly where her family was living at the time of her birth. They were originally from the Harris part of the Isle of Lewis and Harris, in Inverness-shire, but were removed to the Parish of Lochs, Ross-shire, Scotland around the estimated time of Henrietta's birth. A baptism or birth record has not been found for her and the census records vary, giving both Harris, Inverness-shire and the Parish of Lochs, Ross-shire as her place of birth.

Henrietta lived with her family in Seaforth Head, Parish of Lochs until it was cleared about 1826. They then moved to 16 Tong, Parish of Stornoway, Ross-shire.

Henrietta married Duncan Smith on 7 January 1832 in Stornoway. Duncan was born about 1808 on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and died 5 September 1855 in Tong. After their marriage in 1832, Henrietta and Duncan settled at Old Gearraidh Ghuirm, Parish of Stornoway where they had three of their nine children. Old Gearraidh Ghuirm was cleared about 1840 and the family moved to 5 Tong.

"He was the only man in the family not to have the dual occupations of crofter and fisherman as he was described as a woollen weaver and cottar. His widow, Henrietta, worked the croft after his death."

She died on 26 March 1882, "age 72," in Tong.
