Actress. Born in Columbus, Georgia, the younger daughter of Remer Gordon and Laura Reese Parrish. Her mother, a stage actress, took the family to Hollywood where she appeared in bit roles in a number of movies before introducing her children to the screen as well. Helen debuted as Babe Ruth's daughter in the silent ‘Babe Comes Home' in 1927 at the age of five. Along with her brother Robert, and her sister, Beverly, she then spent some time as a member of Hal Roach's Our Gang kids. In her teens she was notable as the teen rival of Deanna Durbin in several films such as 1936's ‘Three Smart Girls. ' She began playing adult roles at Universal and RKO by 1940 and appeared in B movies such as ‘Too Many Blondes' in 1941 and ‘X Marks the Spot' in 1942 before her career went into a slow decline. She made the transition to television, where she appeared in such programs as ‘Stars Over Hollywood,' ‘Cavalcade of America,' and ‘Leave it to Beaver.' She married John Guedel, producer of such programs as ‘People Are Funny' and ‘You Bet Your Life' in 1957 some two years before succumbing to cancer at age 34. (bio by: Iola)
