Harrison Ford is an American actor, pilot, and environmental activist. As of 2020, the U.S. domestic box office grosses of his films total over $5.4 billion, with worldwide grosses surpassing $9.3 billion, placing him at No. 7 on the list of highest-grossing domestic box office stars of all time. In addition to his box office success, Ford is also an Academy Award nominee, a four-time Golden Globe nominee, a three-time Saturn Award winner, and the recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award and the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Following the initial part of his career in bit parts and supporting roles, Ford gained worldwide fame for his starring role as Han Solo in the epic space opera film Star Wars (1977), reprising the role in four sequels over the course of the next 42 years. He is also widely known for his portrayal of Indiana Jones in the titular film franchise, beginning with the action-adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), and for playing other characters in different franchises, most notably Rick Deckard in the dystopian science fiction films Blade Runner (1982) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and the Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan in the spy thriller films Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). His career spans six decades and includes collaborations with some of the most acclaimed and influential filmmakers of all time such as George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Peter Weir, Roman Polanski, and Mike Nichols.

Outside of his franchise roles, Ford has portrayed heroic characters in other films such as the thrillers Witness (1985), for which he received his only Academy Award nomination; The Fugitive (1993); and Air Force One (1997); as well as the historical sports drama 42 (2013). In addition to his heroic roles, he played morally ambiguous and darker characters in films such as the coming-of-age comedy drama American Graffiti (1973), the conspiracy thriller The Conversation (1974), the survival drama The Mosquito Coast (1986), the legal drama Presumed Innocent (1990), and the supernatural suspense thriller What Lies Beneath (2000). Ford has also appeared in several romantic comedies and dramas throughout his career, including Heroes (1977), Working Girl (1988), Sabrina (1995), Six Days, Seven Nights (1998), Random Hearts (1999), Morning Glory (2010), and The Age of Adaline (2015). ביוגרפיה פורד נולד בשיקגו, אילינוי לדורותי נידלמן וכריסטופר פורד. סביו מצד אמו, הארי נידלמן ואנה ליפשוץ, היו יהודים. הורי אביו היו נוצרים.

Best known for his performances as Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy and as the title character of the Indiana Jones film series, Harrison Ford is one of the industry's most bankable stars. Ford has starred in no fewer than 4 of the 10 top grossing movies of all time, 8 of the top 50. Five of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry and his movies have grossed nearly $6 billion.

His four-decade career also includes roles in several other Hollywood blockbusters, including Presumed Innocent, The Fugitive, Air Force One, and What Lies Beneath. If Ford had listened to the advice of studio heads early in his career, he would have remained a carpenter and never gone on to star in some of Hollywood's biggest films

Raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Ford studied English at Ripon College in Wisconsin. He served a long apprenticeship in film and television, interspersed with employment as a carpenter, before finding success in George Lucas' American Graffiti in 1973.

Ford collaborated with Lucas again for his breakthrough role as Han Solo in Star Wars (1977) and its two sequels, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). Cast as a resourceful, swashbuckling hero, he found great popularity as the archaeologist adventurer Indiana Jones in a series of films beginning with Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

Ford enhanced his reputation with testing characterizations in 1985's Witness (for which he received an Oscar nomination), The Mosquito Coast (1986), Presumed Innocent (1990), and The Fugitive (1993). His heroic performances as Jack Ryan for the film adaptations of Tom Clancy’s fictional series secured Ford’s status as one of Hollywood’s favorite leading men, including 1992’s Patriot Games and 1994’s Clear and Present Danger.

Recent films have been less successful at the box office, including 2003's Hollywood Homicide and 2006's Firewall. Ford received the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award in 2000.

He was married to Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979; they have two sons. He was married to screenwriter Melissa Mathison from 1983 to 2004; they have two children. Ford has been coupled with actress Calista Flockhart since 2002. He lives in New York City and maintains an 800-acre ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
