"Daughter Beckley is mentioned in the will of John Deming dated 26 June 1690. Torrey shows that John Beckley married Hannah Deming. Stiles shows that John Deming's daughter Hannah married Thomas Wright, but refers to a Note on John Beckley; under Wright, Stiles shows no marriage of a Thomas Wright to Hannah Deming. Under Beckley, Stiles concludes that John married a daughter of John and Honor (Treat) Deming, and that she was living in 1701 when a final settlement of his estate was made. The Note reads: 'John Beckley's daughter Hannah, whose 'misbehavior', Sept. 1689, only a month before her marr. to Robert Welston [sic, given above as Robert Webster, son of Robert and Susannah (Treat) Webster] had been concealed from John Deming until revealed by the action of the Court, two years and a half later, and whose displeasure was shown by the codicil in his will of ____. His will, also, shows no other Beckley gd-ch. and though a Hannah appears both in the family of Richard and that of John Beckley, yet, as Richard Beckley's will made no provision for the support of his dau. Hannah and left her only a small money gift, it is but reasonable to suppose that she was married before 1689: nor do the Court recds. show any misbehavior of a Hannah or Ann Beckley. So, we are left to the conclusion that John's wife was John Deming's daughter.'"--Evelyn Beran
