About Ham Oldfield - Freebody

Ham is the son of ? OLDFIELD and Mary Ann FREEBODY and was adopted by his grandparents Simon FREEBODY and Mary WELLS.

He also had an older brother Edward OLDFIELD born 1827

Windsor and Richmond Gazette 16/10/1897 page 4 Mrs. Search and Her Son. Through the medium of the Gazette, the whereabouts of a supposed lost son of Mrs. Mary Ann Search of Bosworth-street, Richmond, has been discovered, after an absence of over half a century. It will be remembered that a paragraph appeared in our columns some time ago stating that Mrs. Search was one of the oldest native left in the colony. The paragraph in question was reprinted in the "Albury Banner" with the result that Mrs. Search's lost son came across it and at once communicated with his mother to the effect that he was residing at "Mitta Mitta" Eskdale in Victoria, and doing well. The surprise this news gave the old lady can only be imagined. It might be stated that Mrs. Search's son, when a child, was adopted by his grandmother, Mrs. Freebody of Cornwallis, and from that time he has been known as Ham Freebody. He is 74 years of age, has 7 children, all of whom are married, 50 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. His mother, Mrs. Search, is now in her 98th year, and was greatly upset on hearing the news. She has, however, now recovered from the shock received.
