Bard Guttormsson on Rein (born ca. 1150, died April 3, 1194), a nobleman, was the son of lendmannen Guttorm Åsulvsson on Rein in Trøndelag and Sigrid Torkjell daughter.

Bard Guttormson was a prominent birkebeiner. His family had great names like Sigurd Syr, School Tostesson Earl, Torberg Arnesson, Tord Folesson, Erling Skjalgsson, Einar Tambarskjelve and Earl Hakon the Old.

Snorre Sturlasson writes in Harald Hard Council saga that "The king married him (School Fostering Kong) with its frenke, Gudrun Nevsteinsdatter; her mother was Ingerid, daughter of King Sigurd Syr and Asta, she was the sister of King St. Olaf and King Harald. Son of Skule and Gudrun was Åsulv the Reindeer (in Rissa, Sør-Trøndelag). He was married to Thora, daughter of Skofte Ogmundson. Her and Aasulv son Guttorm on Rein, father of Bard, who was the fatherof King Inge (Baardson) and Duke Skule. "

In Bagler sagas depicted Bard Guttormsson in that "He was very rich, beautiful to look at, meek and quiet and kept himself well." In Sverre's saga, he often mentioned, but it tells only a single personal business of his, he killed Vidkunn Erlingsson of Bjarkøy.

Bard Guttormsson first mentioned in 1181 and is when a nobleman. He then participated in the Battle of Nordnes.

Bard was married three times:

1. Ulvhild Pålsdatter.
2. Cecilia Sigurd's Daughter (1155 to 1186).
3. Ragnfrid Erling daughter.

With Cecilia begot Inge Bårdsson, later king of Norway. With Ragnfrid he Bårdsson School, later the first Duke's, and Ingebjørg Bårdsdatter from Rein, also sons of Sigurd, Åsolv and Guttorm.

From 1181, King Sverre support from Bard Guttormsson as one of the kingdom's most prominent and høyættede men. It also meant a lot to Throndhjem when Inge Bårdsson birkebeiner king, would be accepted as king that he was the son of Bard Guttormsson descended from Trøndelag old leaders, Jarls of Lade and Einar Tambarskjelve. The support from a man that Bard on the Reindeer must have been of decisive importance for the Trøndelag accepted the king Sverre.

Bård Guttormsson på Rein (født ca. 1150, død 3. april 1194), lendmann, var sønn av lendmannen Guttorm Åsulvsson på Rein i Trøndelag og Sigrid Torkjellsdatter.

Bård Guttormson var en framstående birkebeiner. Ætten hans hadde gode navn som Sigurd Syr, Skule Tostesson jarl, Torberg Arnesson, Tord Folesson, Erling Skjalgsson, Einar Tambarskjelve og Håkon jarl den gamle.

Snorre Sturlasson skriver i Harald Hardrådes saga at «Kong Olav giftet ham (Skule Kongsfostre) med sin frenke, Gudrun Nevsteinsdatter; hennes mor var Ingerid, datter til kong Sigurd Syr og Åsta; hun var søster til kong Olav den hellige og kong Harald. Sønn til Skule og Gudrun var Åsulv på Rein (i Rissa, Sør-Trøndelag). Han var gift med Tora, datter til Skofte Ogmundson. Hennes og Åsulvs sønn var Guttorm på Rein, far til Bård, som var far til kong Inge (Bårdson) og hertug Skule.»

I Baglersagaen skildres Bård Guttormsson ved at «Han var meget rik, vakker å se til, saktmodig og stille og holdt seg vel.» I Sverres saga nevnes han ofte, men det fortelles bare om en enkelt personlig bedrift av ham, han drepte Vidkunn Erlingsson av Bjarkøy.

Bård Guttormsson nevnes første gang i 1181 og er da lendmann. Han deltok da i slaget ved Nordnes.

Bård ble gift tre ganger:

1. Ulvhild Pålsdatter.
2. Cecilia Sigurdsdatter (1155 - 1186).
3. Ragnfrid Erlingsdatter.

Med Cecilia fikk han sønnen Inge Bårdsson, senere konge av Norge. Med Ragnfrid fikk han Skule Bårdsson, senere Norges første hertug, og Ingebjørg Bårdsdatter fra Rein, dessuten sønnene Sigurd, Åsolv og Guttorm.

Fra 1181 fikk Kong Sverre støtte fra Bård Guttormsson som en av kongerikets mest fremstående og høyættede menn. Det betydde også mye for trønderne da Inge Bårdsson, birkebeinerkongen, ville bli godtatt som konge at han var sønn av Bård Guttormsson som nedstammet fra Trøndelags gamle ledere, ladejarlene og Einar Tambarskjelve. Oppslutningen fra en mann som Bård på Rein må ha vært av avgjørende betydning for at Trøndelag godtok kong Sverre.

Bård var enkemann etter sitt første ekteskap med Ulvhild. Sverres saga forteller at Bård møtte Sverres søster Cecilia Sigurdsdatter, som hadde rømt fra sin mann Folkvid lagmann i Värmland. Sverre var desperat etter å få Trøndelagpå sin side, og at han satset alt på denne forbindelsen viser det at han lot sin søster Cecilia erklære ekteskapet med Folkvid lagmann for ugyldig, og giftet henne med Bård. Ekteskapet mellom Bård og Cecilia møtte imidlertid vanskeligheter fra geistlighetens side og synes først å ha funnet sted etter slaget ved Fimreite i 1184.

I kong Sverres slag mot øyskjeggene ved Florvåg på Askøy i 1194 ble Bård såret og døde kort etter i Bergen. Liket ble begravet i Kristkirken på Holmen i Bergen.

866442. Jarl Guttorm AUSTMANNSSON i Jamtland(2635) was a Jarl in Jemtland.(2636) I Afzelius: Svenska Folkets Sago-Hafter, III s 30-44, fortelles endel om ham. Jemter og Helsinger gav seg i de tider under Norges konger. Men da Sverige igjen hadde faÌŠtt en god og folkekjær konge, var det Guttorm som gav dem det raÌŠd aÌŠ vende tilbake til sine gamle fedreland. SaÌŠ ble da Jamtland og Helsingland atter svensk under kong Erik, og Guttorm vle av ham gjort til jarl over Svealand, I 1156 var han med Erik paÌŠ korstog mot hedningen i Finland, hvorved Finnland ble kristnet. Guttorm deltok i slaget ved Fyrisvoll i 1161, hvor voldskongen Magnus Henriksson falt. Det fortelles at Guttorm i kong Karl Sverkerssons (d 1167) siste regjeringsaÌŠr for med korshær til Estland. He was married to Ingrid Guttormsdtr REIN about 1150.

From 1181, King Sverre was supported by Bård Guttormsson as one of the kingdom's most prominent and highly regarded men. It also meant a lot to the thrones when Inge Bårdsson, the birch beggar king, would be accepted as king that he was the son of Bård Guttormsson who descended from Trøndelag's old leaders, the charging servants and Einar Tambarskjelve. The support of a man like Bård on Rein must have been of crucial importance for Trøndelag's acceptance of King Sverre.

Bård was a widower after his first marriage to Ulvhild. Sverres saga tells that Bård met Sverre's sister Cecilia Sigurdsdatter, who had escaped from her husband Folkvid lagmann in Värmland. Sverre was desperate to get Trøndelag on his side, and that he bet everything on this connection, it shows that he let his sister Cecilia declare the marriage to Folkvid Lagmann invalid, and married her with Bård. The marriage between Bård and Cecilia, however, faced difficulties from the clergy side and only appears to have taken place after the battle of Fimreite in 1184.

In King Sverre's battle against the island beards at Florvåg on Askøy in 1194, Bård was wounded and died shortly in Bergen. The body was buried in Kristkirken on Holmen in Bergen.
