About Frumet Oppenheim

Dear Randy,
I’m so glad you were working with Fromet! There are two things on her ET sheet which are incorrect. The first, which is just a simple misstatement, is that she is buried next to “Vatersschwester” Sorlin (bt Moshe) Oppenheim e’ Samuel Haas. Sorlin is actually her sister-in-law.
The second thing is perfectly understandable. Gutrut bt Elieser was, indeed, married to (Samuel) Abraham Ballin, but Fromet’s mother was a previous wife of Abraham’s: Roeslin bt Todros. Here she is on Epidat: http://www.steinheim-institut.de/cgi-bin/epidat?id=wrm-6 and she is on page 7 of my copy of the Worms Memorbuch. It is in her honor that Roeslin, daughter of Fromet and Loeb, was named, and, more significantly, it was for her father that Todros Oppenheim was named. The natural assumption was that Fromet was the daughter of both Abraham and Gutrut since they both were living in the Kanne in Worms along with Loeb and Fromet (1610 and 1619 lists), who were raising a family (they actually lived in the Hinterhaus). Just so you know, Gumpricht (named for Gumpricht of the Schwert) was the eldest son, and then there were two little boys who died. My guess is that one of them was named Elieser Susman, for Abraham Ballin’s father. Wolf was the next known son, and then Herz (although a child named Elia Samson died in about 1606 and may have been between them. Hindchen was the only daughter living in 1610, but by 1619 there were “eight children, of whom 2 are married elsewhere”, which accounts for the four younger children: Samuel, Todros, Beer, and Roeslin. So they are amazingly well-documented for the era. Our clues to the ancestors further back are the names Herz and Beer, for which, so far, no sources have been found. My hope is that Samuel is the namesake of Saul/Samuel Bing, said to be old Loeb Oppenheim’s father-in-law. But that’s another story.
Here is my screen for Fromet:
As mentioned above, it is correct that Fromet and Loeb had a daughter Roeslin HO 1239, who died 29 July 1689. On Geni, a daughter “Sorlin” is shown with Roeslin’s death date, but there is no indication that such a Sorlin existed. Roeslin is listed correctly, with the right death date, as “Roeslen Hakohen” but she is listed again as “Rajzle Oppenheim”, but the death date given for “Rajzle” (26 March 1711) is actually for Roeslin HO 5535, daughter of Beer Oppenheim HO 5840 and wife of Isaac Bing Kann HO 1430. Here she is, listed correctly on a different screen of Geni: Rajzle-Reisle Kanne
Also, there is a (Ruben) Josef Oppenheim listed (with the correct death date) as a son of Fromet and Loeb. This is actually Josef, son of Loeb Oppenheim z weissen Loewen (=20 March 1634). Here he is, listed correctly on a different screen of Geni: Reuwen Joseph Oppenheim
There is also a “Gudula Bonn” (with her correct death date) shown as their daughter, but she is Gutle bt Moshe Bonn, wife of Beer Oppenheim HO 5840, son of Loeb and Fromet. Here she is, listed correctly on a different screen of Geni: Gutle Gutle Oppenheim
And last, an Abraham Oppenheim is listed as son of Fromet and Loeb, but there is no evidence in the Frankfurt nor Worms records for such a person, and he is, for some reason, called “half-sibling” of several of Fromet and Loeb’s children. However, neither Fromet nor Loeb had any other spouses.
Samuel is listed correctly, but you might want the scoop on him, and to know that he settled in Koblenz:
So sorry to have gone off on this tangent, but I was afraid I would forget to give you this input.
Back to Prague now!
