FLAMINIO Paleologo, illegitimate son of GIAN GIORGIO SEBASTIANO Marchese di Monferrato & his mistress --- (-24 May 1571). Signor di San Giorgio e Caluso 1532. He served in the Spanish army. Governor of Casale and Senator 1559. He claimed the throne of Monferrato in 1568 and was imprisoned.

Flaminio Paleologo (1518, Casale Monferrato – May 24, 1571, Goito) was an Italian soldier and feudal lord who was killed for rebelling against the Duke of Mantua.

He was the natural son of the marquis Giovanni Giorgio del Monferrato, the last marquis of Monferrato of the Paleologi dynasty. Upon his death in 1533, the succession of the imperial fiefdom of Monferrato effectively began. Emperor Charles V, in 1536, invested the fiefdom with Margherita Paleologa, who in 1531 had married Federico II of Mantua, Duke of Mantua, in Mantua. The imperial decree set aside Flaminio's claims since, being an illegitimate son, he could not aspire to the succession of Monferrato. However, he received from his father, in 1532, the investitures of San Giorgio Monferrato and Caluso. Under the rule of Guglielmo Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua and Marquis of Monferrato, Flaminio was appointed governor of Monferrato. The continuous harassment carried out by the Gonzagas towards the population pushed the citizens to rebel. Flaminio also took part in the conspiracy which, in 1567, was to lead to the assassination of Guglielmo Gonzaga, during the inauguration of the bishop of Casale Ambrogio Aldegati: the duke was saved because his men discovered the plot in time. Flaminio Paleologo was arrested and taken to prison in the fortress of Goito, where Guglielmo instructed Agostino Valla, governor of Mantua, to poison Flaminio. The doctor Francesco Valerio and the pharmacist "messer Pavolo" were Valla's executive arms. Flaminio died of poisoning by the two doctors on 24 May 1571.
