Biography

Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Stephens and Elizabeth Gallup. She was born in Stonington, Connecticut, around 1690. She and three older siblings were baptized in the Congregational church at Stonington on February 18, 1693/4. [1]

Elizabeth married Henry Eliott. They had at least three children, sons Henry and Jabez, and daughter Hopestill, who married Joseph Williams of Groton, Connecticut.[2]

Children of Henry Elliot recorded at Stonington who are likely to be the children of Elizabeth and Henry Elliot are:[3]

Joseph, son of Henry, born Dec. 28, 1720.
Jabez, son of Henry, born Nov. 28, 1722.
Hopestill, daughter of Henry, born Aug. 30, 1724.
Edward, son of Henry, born Apr. 13, 1726; died May 10, 1726.
On July 6, 1725, her father Henry Stephens transferred a tract of land in Stonington to his son-in-law Henry Eliott and his "loving daughter Elizabeth his wife," who were residents of Stonington. When a confirmatory grant was made on July 2, 1741, Elizabeth was deceased, as the grant was to Henry Eliott and the heirs of "Elizabeth Eliott, deceased."[4]

Research Notes

The following content may be for another Elizabeth Stevens. If Elizabeth had married Henry Elliot and remarried in 1729, the marriage record would have given her last name as Elliot. Also, Elizabeth (Stephens) Eliott died before 1741, when Henry Eliott was still alive, so she could not have married in 1729 as the young widow of Henry Eliott. Smith-62120 03:52, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Elizabeth Stevens and Samuel Hall married in Plainfield, Connecticut, on 27 August 1729 in Plainfield.[5]
Elizabeth had at least 3 children with Samuel. Samuel died 5 Nov 1770. His will was probated 1 Oct 1770 (p.23-25). Elizabeth died 18 Nov 1776. The couple is buried in the Old Plainfield Cemetery.
Children:

Abigail Hall b. 3 Jul 1730 Plainfield, mentioned in her father’s will 1770 Plainfield, married Andrew Hirick/Herrick of Preston on 9 Nov 1748 Plainfield (Church Abstracts Vol. 88, Samuel Hall church membership Jan 1751 penciled below the record).
Samuel Hall b. 28 Mar 1735 Plainfield, married Abigail Spaulding on 19 May 1756 Plainfield, mentioned in his father’s will 1770. The couple had several children.
Elisabeth Hall b. about 1737 Plainfield, married 2 Apr 1760 Plainfield Robert Park, mentioned in her father’s will 1770 Plainfield which establishes that she belongs in this family despite a lack of a birth or baptismal record for her.
