Elizabeth Briggs was the daughter of Henry Bridges and Elizabeth Lucas Bridges of Surry County, Virginia. She was born ca 1697 and died 7/11/1762.

Elizabeth Briggs Chappell was the 2nd wife of James Chappell. They married following the death of his 1st wife Elizabeth Howell. Elizabeth & James Chappell and their collective children are mentioned in her father's will:

Sons:

  • James, Thomas, John & Howell Chappell;
  • Daughters: Elizabeth Mason, Mary Gee, Sarah Mason, Rebecca Northington, Amy Smith & Lucretia Carter. *Another daughter, Amy Chappell who married Joshua Tatum, was already dead at the time of the signing of the will.
  • He did mention Amy's children, Thomas and Howell Tatum.

  • "Briggs, Henry: Leg. -- To Grandson, Henry Bledingfield, my plantation on Souh side of Beaver Dam Swamp 170 acres of land.

  • To daughter Hannah Hill, all she is possessed with.
  • To daughter Prisselah Barker, all she is possessed with.

  • To daughter, Rebecca Chappell, a cow.
