Family

Walter Bean

  • b. c 1779
  • d. Aft 1860 Mt. Vernon ? Ill., Gallatin Co.
  • m. 1) Elizabeth McGaillard, b. Burke Co., N.C. ?

IMPORTANT UPDATE

As of early 2018, this Walter Bean and several of his siblings are no longer grouped under the family of William Bean II and Anne Scott/Celia Wyatt. The said William Bean has descendants with completely different Y-DNA results as those from Walter and some of Walter's siblings.

Those Y-DNA results have pointed to an origin with the patrilineal SWANN family.

Research is on-going and not completely defined yet as of April 2019. However, we now know that there was an Elizabeth Baynes in Prince George's County, Maryland that had 2 boys, Walter Bayne and Richard Swan Bayne, with a Swann male. She kept the BAYNE (later BEAN) name for her boys, indicating two possible out-of-wedlock pregnancies.

Elizabeth later married Thomas Fry of PG County, and the whole family moved to old Anson County, North Carolina in 1767 (later Montgomery County).

Research into the BAYNES/BEANES orings of Elizabeth are still on-going and speculative at this point.

The best guess to this Walter's parentage lies with Walter Bayne (later Bean), son of Elizabeth Baynes. This is the best guess today based on the evidence in front of us, but hasn't been confirmed. Walter Bayne's brother, Richard Swan Bayne, is later known as Richard "Dickey" Bean of Randolph County, North Carolina.

Please contact Clinton Bean (PotomacPatriarchs at clanmacbean.org) if you have any questions or supporting research. Thanks!!

Walter has been reported to have died in 1883 in Gallatin Co., IL in all of Bernie Bean's books. However the last time I can locate Walter is on the 1860 Gallatin Co., IL census (twp. 8 Range 9E with the post office listed as New Market, enumerated 3 Jul 1860).

(However, there is another Walter and Katherine, younger in age, in Jefferson Co.)

They lived in Franklin Co., Tenn., until 1825, then moving in a wagon to Mt. Vernon, Ill., over the tortuous trails over the mountains.

He had moved as a young man from N.C. to Tenn. with his parents. His place of birth is uncertain. The census of 1850 shows that he was then living in Gallatin Co., Ill., and it also shows that he was born in Burke Co., N.C. If this be true, his parents did not move to Tenn. in 1779, or else they moved when he was just a baby.

Walter and Elizabeth settled at what is now Walltonville, Ill. They had 11 children, 9 born in Franklin Co., Tenn., and 2 born in Gallatin Co., Ill.
