About Daniel Cresap, Sr.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/247533685/juliann-frazee
A Patriot of the American Revolution for MARYLAND. DAR Ancestor # A027738
The oldest son of Thomas Cresap.
John J. Jacob, familiar with the Cresap family and writing in 1826 just 28 years after Daniel's death, described Daniel as a "plain man, the patriarch of the day and the country in which he lived; a man of sober habits, great industry, economy, and temperance."
Nemacolin, an old Indian friend of his father, and Daniel were bear hunting one day, eventually chasing a bear to the top of a mountain. Daniel climbed a tree to force down some bear cubs but fell from the tree, knocking himself out and breaking several bones. Nemacolin took him home. Due to this incident, and his having lived in that vicinity, the mountain has been named Dan's Mountain and is now the site of Dan's Mountain State Park in Maryland.
