Little is known of Cynfyn. His fame, like that of many of his descendants, was only the reflection of the fame of his distinguished wife. There is no evidence that he ever attempted to rule in the right of his wife as did her first husband. The sons of Cynfyn and Angharad were Bleddyn and Rhiwallon. The pedigree of Cynfyn which appears in Vol 1, p 63 of the Historical Manuscripts Commission, London, 1898, extends back through twenty-two generations to Beli Mawr and Anna through their son Llud. Prof Lloyd thinks that it is mythical. It is certainly incomplete. It would require many more than twenty-two generation to cover the period of more than one thousand years. In the History of Radnorshire it is stated that Cynfyn was the son of Gwerstan and the grandson of Gwaethfoed Fawr. [The Weaver Genealogy]

Wikipedia: Cynfyn ap Gwerystan (born c. 990[1]%29 — sometimes spelled Kynvyn, Kynwyn, Cynvyn, or Kynfyn — was a Welsh nobleman,[citation needed] principally known on account of his son Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, who established the House of Mathrafal over Powys as a consequence of a Saxon invasion in 1063.[citation needed]

Gwerystan ap Gwaethfoed was a patrilineal descendant of Cynwrig, the younger brother of Iorwerth Hirflawdd who ruled Arwystli. Legendary accounts locate Gwerystan's father Gwaithfoed in Englefield, and describe him as a friend of King Edgar (while the latter was in Chester); evidently Cynfyn's grandfather was a significant nobleman.

Cynfyn married Angharad ferch Maredudd, daughter of Maredudd ab Owain, king of Dyfed, Gwynedd, and Powys;[citation needed] crucially, she was also the widow of Llywelyn ap Seisyll, who had succeeded Maredudd as king of Gwynedd and Powys. Wolcott argues that Cynfyn acted as caretaker ruler of Gwynedd and Powys, until 1033, when Iago ap Idwal came of age and took the kingship.

Children With an unnamed Irish princess, daughter of Sitric Silkbeard c. 960 he had the following issue:
