About Conrad I, Count of Luxembourg

Conrad I, Count of Luxembourg (c. 1040 – 8 August 1086) was count of Luxembourg (1059-1086), succeeding his father Giselbert of Luxembourg.

He was embroiled in an argument with the archbishop of Trier as to the abbaye Saint-Maximin in Trier which he had avowed. The archbishop excommunicated him Conrad had to make honourable amends and set out on pilgrimage for Jerusalem. He died in Italy on the return journey.

He founded many abbeys:

Koenraad I was, als opvolger van zijn vader Giselbert, graaf van Luxemburg van 1059 tot 1086. Opmerkelijk om over hem te vermelden is dat hij de eerste was van wie men met zekerheid weet dat hij de titel van Graaf van Luxemburg droeg. Dat feit wordt vermeld op een document dat dateert van 6 juli 1083. Vanwege dit gegeven wordt hij door sommigen ook wel als eerste graaf van Luxemburg gezien.

Getrouwd met Clementia van Poitou rond 1072.

Na zijn dood werd hij opgevolgd door zijn [.. of HAAR ...] zoon Hendrik III.

Hok sterft 8 augustus 1086 en is begraven te Alt-Münster, Luxemburg.
