Major George Norsworthy lineage to Tristram established by sale of 73 1/2 acres of land by grandson John Norsworthy, "eldest son of COL George Norsworthy, of the same County, who was eldest son of Major George Norsworthy, who was the eldest son of Tristram Norsworthy," (Deed Book 9, Page 633, Norfolk County), "part of land patented by my greatgrandfather, Tristram Norsworthy, 19 August, 1650, in Lower Norfolk." Major George Norsworthy was probably deceased by 1689, for he is said to be "late of the County of Nansemond" in a land transfer (Deed Book 1, 9 Dec 1689, IOW Co., VA) from John and Ann Smith to John Mackmihill. The year of George's birth, 1632, is documented by a statement of his age as 40 years in Book E, 1666-1675, Norfolk County. His marriage to Elizabeth Pitt, daughter of Robert Pitt, is documented by Robert's will, dated 6 June 1672 and proved 9 June 1674 (W&D Book 2, P 128, IOW Co) He patented 650 acres in Isle of Wight County and 400 acres in Norfolk County

"Tristam Norsworthy patented 150 acres in 1643 in Isle of Wight county. He was burgess for Upper Norfolk county (Nansemond) in January, 1639-40. In 1656 he is referred to as "Lt. Col. Tristram Norsworthy of ye Ragged Islands, gent." In 1654 he was one of the justices of Nansemond. In 1699 George Norsworthy, eldest son of Major George Norsworthy, which last was eldest son of Tristram Norsworthy above named, was appointed by the council lieutenant-colonel and commander-in-chief of Nansemond county.; ; IV--Burgesses and Other Prominent Persons"
17th Century-Isle of Wight History, p. 237: "The first in the family in Virginia was Tristram Norsworthy who patented 200 acres in Nansemond, June 5, 1639 "towards the head of a bay behind the Ragged Islands." On the same date he patented 150 acres near Daniel Gookin for his own personal adventure and that of his wife Ann....
- His eldest son was Colonel George Norsworthy, mentioned in Bacon's Rebellion... Tristram Norsworthy's other children were:
- William who died in 1707 without issue;
- John who married Frances and left a daughter who married Joseph Bridger. (Will 1713.)
- Thomas who had a wife Susannah (No issue known) and
- Tristram who married Sarah Pitt, the daughter of Colonel John Pitt and his wife Olive, daughter of John Hardy.

On the same day he patented 150 acres near Daniel Gookin for his own personal adventure and that of his wife Ann, and a servant. He was Burgess for Upper Norfolk or Nansemond in 1641. He probably died in Nansemond and the date of his death is not known. His eldest son was Colonel George Norsworthy, mentioned in Bacon's Rebellion and a Captain of militia, afterwards sheriff of Nansemond, who made his will February 1st, 1700, and same was probated in 1705. Colonel George's wife may have been of the Pitt family but this we are not certain.
