James married Jean (Black) Hanna in 1751 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Together they had the following children: Col. William Hanna; Robert Cunningham Hanna; Jane (Hanna) Barry; Mary (Hanna) McConnell; James Hanna, Jr; Deborah (Hanna) Watson.

James married Ann (Johnson) Hanna circa 1746 in Northern Ireland. Together they had the following children: Elizabeth (Hanna) Frame; Capt. James William Hanna.

He died on May 31, 1797 in York, York Co, South Carolina, United States and was buried in Bethesda Church Cemetery, York, South Carolina.

Scanned. * In the Name of God Amen, I James Hanna of the State of South Carolina in the County of York being in a Sick and low condition but of perfect mind and Memory, do make Ordain and constitute this to be my last will and Testament. First I Desire my Body to be descently Buried Secondly my Estate and Effects I bequeath and Dispose of in manner and form following. Viz, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Jean Hanna a Negro wench named Diana one horse and sadle four cows and the whole of my household furnture to be Equally devided between her and my Daughter Elizabeth; my Desk and Clock excepted I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth one Negro girl named Sarah and one horse and sadle and two cows Item I give and bequeath to my grandson James Hanna son to William Hanna a Negro man Named Sampson and my Clock, Item I give and bequeath to my Grandson James Hanna, Son to Robert Hanna a Negro boy Named Sam, Item, I give and bequeath to my Grandaughter Rosanah Berry Hanna Daughter to Robert Hanna a Negro girl named Dovve, Item, I give and bequeath to Daughter Marthers a negro boy named James, Item, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Deborah at teh Decease of my Wife a negro woman named Hetty, Item, I bequeath a negro man named Joseph to be sold and the price of said negro to be Equally Devided amongst my Children William Berry Excepted, Item I give and bequeath to my son James Hanna the plantation which I now live on and my Desk at the Decease of my wife, Item I give and bequeath the Remainder of my goods and Chattles to be sold and the money ariseing there from to be Equally Divided amongst my wife and Children in the manner above mentioned and lastly I do make ordain and appoint William Hanna, Robert Hanna and my Wife Jean Hanna my whole and Sole Executors of this my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and seal this 13th Day of February in the year of our Lord 1797 Sign'd Seal'd an acknowledg'd In the presence of us Jas.
