Name: Captain John Blake Sex: M Birth: 1594 in Somersetshire, England Death: BEF 1660 in Malden Surrey, England Note:

A Philadelphia Blake(a lawyer) who was in England saw a record that at Malden England ( is in Kingston upon the thames, England. It is a historic county of Surrey) a George Durant married a women Elizabeth who was the widow of a "Captain Blake". A search of his parents on ancestry.com have show Thomas Blackshaw as his father, Over fifty sources indicate he was his father. However these same sources show Captain John Blake as born in 1594 and Thomas Blackshaw born 1581. This would make Thomas 13 years old when his son John was born. This makes the dates suspect and the Blackshaw family connection suspect

However, I have chosen the research of John Blake MD who connects Captain Blake to the William Giles Blake family.

Bill:

Somehow the Blakes are an enigma. Iwas born John Edward Blake II (?) I have been @ genealogy seriously for abt. 20 yrs, but am as much an amateur as when I first started. In spite of taking all the courses @ BYU etc etc. I am not LDS nor am I happy /w Ancestry com in many ways. Never knew my father [JEB sr].. Mother div. him 1932 said he died in China... @ age 70 I got an E-Mail asking how I had the same parents as the sender... !!

In an instant I had 8 sibs /w the alleged existence of more.. Pop had a number of spice around the globe.. The Blakes are of al least 3 lines. Brit & Irish. The Galway Blakes are descibed as a Tribe.of Black

Irish (Gaul = French) There is a rich oral history that is not documented. I went to Ireland, where every tour bus guide tell lots of tales__ etc. Paid for lots of genealogist searching , with no results.

The real search in American history yielded a wealth of [small print] leads, all from Northern Ireland.(Antrim) like the Germans ,the Irish were embroiled as the Brass of every war.or rebellion. Scot in latin = Irish. Hibernian / Hebridies etc.

Found the most in that lot. in the Peerage records. As for the Brits I got leads from decendants of Giles or New Hampshire Blakes. Many late arrivals were on the run and left few clues as to past heritage.
