About 1715, the father of John, Stephen Harding, bought 140 acres of Providence, RI from Joseph Smith according to The Hardings in America, pp. 29-30. Stephen moved around that time from Providence to Warwick, which eventually was a part of Waterford. After this his son, John, reportedly dropped the 'g' from Harding and moved to Kentucky, becoming the head of the line of Hardins in Kentucky. [1]
He passed away about 1783. [2]
