Beerwout continued the work of his father Beerwout I of Egmont by building the first Donjon at the end of the Hoeven. He may therefore be called the first resident of the castle. Beerwout was in conflict with the neighboring abbey on payment methods several times, in order to break the dispute, Beerwout himself was appointed steward of the abbey. He was married to an unknown woman, with whom he received at least two sons:
