The death record for the Barbara Barrickman, that is in the records book, that was born in 1781 and died on Oct. 1857, does not give the name of her husband but it states that her parents were JAMES and BARBARA FRANKS. That is all the info that is given for her. At this time we do not know who she was. But DNA proves that she is not the mother of John Barrickman’s children.

The courthouse in Monongalia County, WV, burned down in the late 1700's so the marriage records for the county was destroyed. This is the reason that there is not a marriage record for John Barrickman and Barbara Pickenpaugh at the county courthouse. A citizen from the county did go around to the households to try and restore the court records and a book was published. This book does include the marriage dates for John and Barbara Pickenpaugh Barrickman. The families of the Barrickman's and the Pickenpaugh's were close. Both families also married into the Cole family. Barbara Pickenpaugh's sister, Catherine married a Cole and so did John and Barbara's grandson married into the Cole family.
