About August Johannes Salzmann, b3
Roy: b.Germany, came to SA approx 1880s, was a farmer on farm Ratabane, near Thaba Nchu - farm eventually ceded to Maria Elizabeth SALZMANN and Christina Frederika Johanna SALZMANN; also owned a farm Trafalgar on Modder River at Sannaspos, later split into two -- one portion named Vrede, the other remained Trafalgar. Before Trafalgar was split it was leased to an old Jew called SILBERMAN (from Bloemfontein) - only huts, no buildings - rent was 5 pounds a year, which he thought too steep.
Possibly related to French photographer Auguste Salzmann (1824-1872), born in Alsace.
