About Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll
Gillespie Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll (c. 1465 – 9 September 1513) was a Scottish nobleman and politician who was killed at the Battle of Flodden.
Archibald was the eldest son of Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll and Isabel Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 2nd Lord Lorne. He was Master of the Royal Household of James IV of Scotland, March 24, 1495. Lord of Argyll, 2nd Lord High Chancellor of Scotland.
Killed in battle at Flodden Field, Branxton, Northumberland, Eng. King James IV also killed in battle, which was an English victory, and a disaster for Scotland.
De Facto head of Government in Scotland during the War of 3 Kingdoms.

II. ARCHIBALD, second Earl of Argyll, had a grant of the lands of Auchintwerely (Auchintorlie) and others, co. Dumbarton, 3 July 1489,6 which were erected into a barony of that name. He succeeded his father 1493, and obtained a charter, 30 June 1494,7 confirming the purchase from Elisabeth Menteith, Lady of Rusky, with the consent of Archibald Napier of Merchiston her son, of half of the lands of Inchirnawrisky and others, co. Argyll. He had the office of Master of the Household 1494, as appears from a charter which he witnessed on 24 March 1494-95 ; 8 and ob- tained a great number of charters under the great seal from 1494-1512. Argyll and his brother-in-law Lennox commanded the right wing of the royal army at the battle of Flodden, and were both killed on that field.
