For a long time,it was thoughtthat they had a 3rd brother, Jacques, and were sons ofJacques Hebert and Marie Juneau of France. The Acadian branch of the Hébert family did not appear until a generation after the death of Louis of Québec. Around 1640, two brothers, Antoine and Étienne Hébert, arrived at Port-Royal. Some authorities claim that Antoine and Étienne were brothers of Jacques Hébert, fils, son of Jacques Hébert, père and Marie Juneau of La-Haye-Descartes, Touraine, France. Jacques, fils's name appears in a notarized marriage contract in Québec in 1688, witnessed by Marie-Guillemette Hébert, a daughter of Acadian and Québec pioneer Louis Hébert. Stephen A. White, pre-eminent Acadian genealogist, has demonstrated, however, that Jacques Hébert, fils of Québec was actually Jacques Habert, which was a different family from the Héberts of Québec and Acadia, so the parentage and birthplace of the Hébert brothersare still unknown.
What is known is that Antoine, born in c1621, was a young farmer turned cooper when he came to Port-Royal. He married Geneviève Lefranc in c1648 at Port-Royal. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. Only one son, Jean, born at Port-Royal in c1653, lived to adulthood. He married Marie-Anne, daughter of Pierre Doucet, at Port-Royal in c1676. Members of the family were counted at Minas in the early 1690s and at Chignecto in 1713. Jean died probably at Minas in c1707 in his 50s. Marie-Anne died at Grand-Pré in November 1710. Jean and Marie-Anne had 14 children, including seven sons who created families of their own:
Oldest son Jacques, born at Port-Royal in c1677, married Jeanne, daughter of Claude Gautreaux, at Port-Royal in c1703. They settled at Chignecto and had 10 children, including three sons who married into the Arceneaux, Bernard, and Chiasson families.
Pierre dit Laprade or La Pradelle, born at Port-Royal in c1679, married Isabelle, daughter of Antoine Landry, at Port-Royal in c1702. They also settled at Chignecto and had four children, including two sons who married into the Bourg and Gaudet families. Isabelle died in c1709, and Pierre dit Laprade remarried to Marie-Josèphe, daughter of Jacques Blou, at Chignecto in c1710. This second marriage produced six more children for Pierre dit Laprade, including three sons who married daughters of Jean-Baptiste Poirier. Pierre died probably in the 1750s, on the eve of Le Grand Dérangement.
Jean, fils, born at Port-Royal in c1681, married Marie-Marguerite, another daughter of Antoine Landry, at Port-Royal in c1701. They settled at Cobeguit and had 12 children, including seven sons who married into the Dugas, Bourg, Benoit, Melançon, and Aucoin families. Marie-Marguerite died before April 1734, when Jean, fils remarried to Marguerite, daughter of probably Jacques Leprince, at Grand-Pré, but this second marriage produced no more children. In the late 1740s or early 1750s, the family left Cobeguit for Île St.-Jean, today's Prince Edward Island, to escape British authority in Nova Scotia.
Joseph, born at Port-Royal in November 1685, married Anne-Marie, or Marie-Anne, daughter of Claude Boudreaux, at Port-Royal in c1707. They settled at Chignecto and had 12 children, including four sonswho married into the Poirier, Cormier, Arceneaux, and Bertrand families.
René dit Groc, born in c1689 either at Port-Royal or Minas, married Marie, another daughter of Claude Boudreaux, in c1707. They settled at Minas and had 12 children, including eight sons who married into the Doiron, Cyr, Dupuis, Bourg, LeBlanc, Forest, Landry, and Gautreaux families.
Augustin, born probably at Minas in the early 1690s, married Anne, yet another daughter of Claude Boudreaux, at Grand-Pré in September 1712. They remained at Minas and had 10 children, including five sons who married into the Landry, Clouâtre, Poirier, and Dugas families.
Youngest son Francois, birth year unknown, married Anne, daughter of Michel Bourg, in c1726, probably at Chignecto. Francois died in the early 1760s during Le Grand Dérangement.

In the case of the Hébert family, it was allied with the Gaudet through Antoine's marriage to Marie. Marie's sister Francoise was also allied with the LeBLanc family through her marriage to Daniel. Evidence of their marriages in France is found in the Belle-Isle-en-Mer declarations in 1767. Moreover, a certain Jean Gaudet, was censistaire in 1634 on land at Martaizé (Vienne) in the Seigneurie owned by the mother of Acadian governor Charles d'Aulnay. However, Massignon's research failed to find any relevant baptismal or marriagerecords.
DNA. The French Heritage yDNA project, including Acadian lines, is posted here. Validated ancestral signatures for Acadians including brothers Antoineand Etienne Hébert are found here. As of June 2014, there were results from ten of their descendants including two family trees of Antoine and four family treesof Etienne.
Arrival in Acadia. There is no evidence supporting the couple's arrival in Acadia. It was certainly before 1671, as the family is listed there. Therefore it is not clear how the historical events in Acadia, provided in the timeline below, may have affected Antoine.

Antoine's brother Etienne married around the same time (1650). It is not clear when Antoine arrived in Acadia.

________ Etienne Hebert [ .. ] died before the census of 1671, was married at Port Royal around 1650 to Marie Gaudet, daughter of Jean Gaudet and an unknown wife [ .. ] Antoine Hebert, born between 1614 and 1621, [ .. ] married around 1640 to Genevieve Lefranc, probably a widow, who was born in 1613. The dispensations which were sought by their descendants suggest that they were brothers. These two brothers traveled to Acadia in July of 1640 under a recruitment by Danrles De Menou D'Aulnay. Antoine was a cooper [ tonnellier ]. He and his brother were the progenitors of all of the Acadian HEBERTs and their descendants.
