Biography

Our Immigrant ancestor came to America in 1635 on the ship "The Planter" and settled near Boston. His occupation was Glover. He soon moved to Exeter, N.H. He took the Oath of Freeman in 1644, was Town Clerk of Exeter, in 1647. Anthony moved to Hampton in 1648 and became Deputy to General Court from Hampton, in 1654. Info. found in New Hampshire Genealogy Record p. 143-144, Vol.s 5-7.
Anthony married Mary ? and secondly the widow Ann Spicer.
An inventory of his estate was taken 21 February 1688/89, totaled L45 18s. 2d, with no real estate.
Family
Anthony Stanyan married twice. By 1642, he was married to Mary (Unknown). On January 1, 1655/6, he married Ann Spicer Partridge, the widow of William Partridge. She survived him and died at Hampton on July 10, 1689.
He held various offices in Exeter and Hampton, including clerk, constable, juror, and but he must have been hot-tempered, as he was fined twice for striking other men.
Anthony and Mary had two children:
- John, born in Boston on July 16, 1642. He married at Hampton on December 15, 1663, Mary Bradbury, daughter of Thomas Bradbury. "John the sonne of Anthony Stanion & Mary his wife was borne 16 (5) 1642.[1]
- Mary, born about 1644. She married John Pickering, son of John Pickering, on January 10, 1665/6.
