About Anne Jenifer
She has no right to the name Scarburgh, and never used it.
Was the mistress of Col. Edmund Scarburgh, a married man. They had three daughters together: Atalanta, Arcadia and Annabella.
Anne Toft "traded fish and tobacco with Dutch and English merchants. In the 1660s Toft, as a single woman, accumulated thousands of acres of land in Virginia, Maryland, and Jamaica." Women in Colonial Virginia, Encyclopedia Virginia. Edmund Scarborough was instrumental to her financial success and after his death from smallpox in May 1671, she married Col. Daniel Jenifer.
